Who we are
Since 1994, Shogun.nl has been a well-known name in airsoft, knives, outdoor, and shooting sports. What began as a small shop has grown into a leading specialist retailer with a 1400 m² showroom in Purmerend, the Netherlands. Discover how we got here.
1994 - The Beginning
In 1994, Piet opened his store in Beverwijk, driven by a passion for knives, swords, and craftsmanship. The shop quickly became a go-to spot for collectors and enthusiasts of unique items.
2003 - A New Chapter
When Piet retired, Richard Braakman took over. With a background in wholesale, a strong entrepreneurial drive, and a completed weapons and ammunition trade certification, Richard led Shogun into a new era focused on quality, expertise, and product expansion.
2013 - First Official Location
As the business outgrew its home setup, Richard and Ursula invested in the future by opening Shogun's first official location in Landsmeer. It marked the start of a more professional era.
2016 - Edwin Joins
Long-time friend Edwin Ringeling joined, bringing experience from his managerial role with the City of Amsterdam. Driven by curiosity and shared passion, he also completed the certified arms and ammunition retailer training, allowing him to assist with licensed sales.
2017 - Move to Wormerveer
Shogun relocated to Wormerveer, combining showroom, warehouse, and shooting range under one roof. For the first time in the Netherlands, customers could try out airsoft replicas in-store — a game-changing customer experience.
2022 - Purmerend Expansion
In 2022, Shogun moved to Purmerend. A former car showroom was transformed into a 1400 m² retail space with three specialist departments and a large warehouse — a major upgrade in scale and professionalism.
2024 - Digital Leap
In October 2024, we launched our brand-new website. Along with a modernised backend and improved webshop, we introduced Shogun.shop — our English-language platform, making our expertise available internationally.
The Road Ahead
Today, Shogun has 30 team members, ranging in age and expertise. Together, we deliver service, specialisation, and experience — continuing to build a future full of growth, craftsmanship, and strong community ties.
