Frequently Asked Questions & KNSA Legislation

How do I start with shooting sports in the Netherlands?

To be allowed to shoot with real firearms, you must become a member of a shooting club recognized by the KNSA (Royal Dutch Shooting Sport Association). When registering, you must provide a VOG (Certificate of Good Conduct). After screening and approval, you become an aspiring member. During this period, you use club weapons and learn the safety rules and basic techniques of shooting.

When can I purchase a firearm myself?

After you have been a full member of a shooting club for at least one full year and have completed enough shooting sessions (minimum 18 per year), you can apply for a permit to possess a firearm via the police. Your first weapon must exclusively be a small caliber weapon (.22LR) whether it's a pistol, revolver, or bolt-action rifle. Only after 12 months from your first permit can you switch or expand to a large caliber firearm, provided you practice the appropriate discipline at the club. A semi-automatic rifle is only allowed after the 3rd year, provided you practice the appropriate discipline.

Can I store my firearm and ammunition at home?

Yes, once you have a valid firearms permit, you are allowed to store the weapon at home. However, there are strict legal requirements. The firearm and ammunition must be stored in a sturdy, approved gun safe. This safe must be firmly anchored to the wall or floor. Furthermore, weapons and ammunition must be stored separately (for example, in a separate, lockable inner compartment of the safe). The police check this annually during home visits.

How do I buy or reserve a firearm at Shogun?

Found the perfect model?
You can reserve the weapon directly online. We will immediately set it aside for you in our secured safe.

After reserving, we need a copy of your KNSA card and your ID. Once received, we will create an option receipt for you with our details and the weapon specifications. The step-by-step plan for your permit application:

Request the forms: Take the option receipt to your shooting club's board. Ask for a WM3 form and a WM32 form.
Fill out forms: The WM3 form is completed by the club. You fill out the WM32 form yourself, along with 3 references.
Appointment Police: Once the forms are fully completed and signed, make an appointment with the police department in your region.

Picking up your weapon
Have you completed the process and received your permit (WM4) and a WM2 (collection receipt)? Then you are very welcome in our store to pick up your weapon and optionally buy the corresponding ammunition right away!
Note: Always bring your valid ID, KNSA card, and the original WM2 and WM4 documents when picking up.

Which caliber or platform will you choose?

Making a choice from these top models can be tricky, especially if it's your first purchase. What you are looking for depends heavily on your shooting discipline. A few guidelines:

  • Small Caliber (.22 LR): The standard for precision shooting and KNSA newcomers. Cheap ammo, minimal recoil, and perfect for refining your technique.
  • Large Caliber (9x19mm / .357): For the dynamic shooter (IPSC / Action Shooting) or the experienced precision shooter looking for more power and challenge.
  • Pistol vs. Rifle: From compact and reliable handguns to AR-15 platforms (PCC) and bolt-action precision rifles for long distances.
