H&N Slug HP 4.5mm 16gr – hollow point slug for PCP air rifle

The H&N Slug HP is an advanced hollow point projectile in 4.5 mm / .177 caliber with a weight of 16 grain. Thanks to the combination of the relatively heavy projectile and the slug form with hollow point, this slug for PCP air rifle performs best in a PCP system that delivers from approximately 40 joules. With a pack of 300 pieces, you have ample supply to properly tune your air rifle to this projectile.

Our experience from the Shogun team

During our shooting sessions, what stood out most was how stable this slug behaves at distances of up to approximately 75 to 100 metres, provided it is fired from a PCP with sufficient energy. The special precision coating ensures smooth passage through the barrel and contributes to consistent grouping. The hollow point provides a recognisable flight behaviour in which the projectile retains its mass well, resulting in a predictable trajectory at longer distances.

Technical specifications in practice

The projectile is manufactured from lead, has a caliber of 4.51 mm (.1775), a weight of 16 grain, and a hollow point bullet form. Each tin contains 300 pieces. The combination of the higher weight and the slug form ensures better energy retention over distance compared to lighter diabolo pellets in the same caliber. The hollow point also offers excellent energy transfer upon impact. For optimal precision, it is worthwhile testing different grain weights in your own air rifle; a chronograph is a valuable tool to gain insight into the energy output and consistency of your setup.

Who is this air rifle ammunition suitable for?

This slug is intended for the PCP shooter who wants to perform consistently at distances of up to approximately 100 metres and values high energy transfer. Recreational precision shooters who enjoy long range plinking and target shooting with their PCP air rifle will find this an interesting projectile. As this is a hollow point, this projectile also lends itself to pest and rodent control. Please bear in mind that the use of an air rifle for this purpose is legally regulated: in many cases, an exemption or hunting licence is required and this is exclusively permitted for certified pest controllers or authorised users.
