H&N Slug HP II 5.5mm 30gr – hollow point slug for PCP air rifle

The H&N Slug HP II is a slug for PCP air rifle in caliber 5.5 mm / .22 with a weight of 30 grain. Due to the relatively heavy projectile and the hollow point design, this slug performs best in PCP systems delivering from 40 joules of energy. Within that power range, the slug can be shot accurately at distances of up to approximately 75 to 100 metres, where the mass ensures stable flight and retention of energy well into the trajectory.

Our experience from the Shogun team

What we notice when shooting with this slug is the calm flight behaviour with sufficient barrel twist and sufficient energy. At mid-range distances between 40 and 75 metres, groupings remain tight, and towards 100 metres we observe that the slug retains its velocity relatively well compared to lighter projectiles. It is worthwhile testing different batches against a paper or cardboard backdrop, so you can establish the exact behaviour of your barrel — no two PCP air rifles perform identically with the same slug.

Technical characteristics in practice

The projectile is manufactured from lead, has a weight of 30 grain, and is supplied in a pack of 200 pieces. The combination of the caliber 5.5 mm / .22 and the hollow point design ensures focused energy transfer on the target, while the slug's profile contributes to a favourable ballistic coefficient. A chronograph is in practice a valuable tool for measuring the muzzle energy of your PCP air rifle, helping to determine the optimal grain choice for your setup.

Who is this air rifle ammunition suitable for?

This air rifle ammunition is intended for shooters with a PCP air rifle who wish to shoot at mid to longer ranges with consistent performance, for example on a long-range range or during precision training. As this is a hollow point projectile, it is also suitable for pest and rodent control. Please be aware that the use of an air rifle for pest control purposes in the Netherlands is legally regulated: in many cases a licence or hunting permit is required, and this is only permitted for certified pest controllers or authorised users.
