Alaskan Survival Knife | Black Micarta | Gil Hibben – A robust bushcraft knife for demanding outdoor adventures

The Alaskan Survival Knife by Gil Hibben is an impressive bushcraft knife that immediately stands out due to its solid construction. This knife is designed for serious outdoor activities and survival situations. With a blade length of 17.46 cm and a spearpoint blade shape, it is a substantial tool that inspires confidence.

Experience from the Shogun team

We took this knife with us during a bushcraft weekend in the Ardennes. The spearpoint blade proved excellent for precise cutting work, but the weight of 730 grams made prolonged use somewhat tiring. The included leather sheath turned out to be a real asset in the field.

Performance and sharpness of this bushcraft knife

The 17.46 cm long blade is made from 420J2 stainless steel – a reliable steel type that is highly resistant to moisture and corrosion. The plain-edge blade remains razor-sharp with normal use and cuts smoothly through rope, wood and food. For intensive woodwork, you will need to sharpen it a bit more often.

Grip and ease of use

The black Micarta handle offers an ergonomic grip that provides security even in wet conditions. The material feels pleasant and offers good traction. The knife sits firmly in the hand, although the weight of 730 grams may take some getting used to for some users.

Who is this bushcraft knife suitable for?

This outdoor knife is ideal for the experienced bushcrafter who appreciates robust tools. It is less suitable for EDC use due to its size and weight. Collectors of Gil Hibben knives will certainly appreciate this model with its chrome blade finish.

Maintenance and durability

The stainless steel makes maintenance easy: rinsing, drying and occasional oiling is sufficient. The chrome finish remains attractive with proper care. While 420J2 steel is not the hardest, it offers good corrosion resistance and is easy to sharpen.
