RPSolutions 11.6mm / .457 Hollow Base 156gn – Heavy Slug for PCP Air Rifle

This RPSolutions slug in caliber 11.6 mm / .457 with a weight of 156 grain and a hollow base profile is designed for heavier PCP systems that make full use of the potential of big bore air rifle systems. The hollow base ensures a better seal in the barrel, resulting in more efficient gas pressure transfer and a more stable flight. This projectile performs best in powerful PCP air rifles from 300 joules upwards, where long distances and consistent performance are key.

Our Experience from the Shogun Team

During our test sessions, the stability of this projectile was immediately apparent. The combination of mass and the hollow base results in calm flight behaviour, even at distances beyond 75 metres. The projectile retains its energy well and groups neatly at longer ranges, provided the system delivers sufficient power. We noted that the slug performs particularly well in stable weather conditions, where the heavy projectile is minimally affected by crosswind.

Technical Characteristics in Practice

With a caliber of 11.6 mm / .457 and a weight of 156 grain, this slug clearly falls within the big bore category. The packaging contains 100 pieces, providing ample opportunity to test which velocity and grouping best suits your specific barrel. A chronograph is genuinely valuable in this context: with this type of projectile, a difference of just a few metres per second can have a noticeable impact on energy transfer and point of impact. Testing different grain weights within the same line is always worthwhile to determine where your setup shoots most accurately.

Who Is This Air Rifle Ammunition Suitable For?

This slug is intended for experienced shooters with a powerful big bore PCP air rifle who are looking for long-range performance. Think of precision enthusiasts who want to push their system to its limits on the shooting range, or those working with heavily configured PCP platforms. As this is a hollow base projectile (comparable in expansion behaviour to hollow point variants), this type of slug can also be used for pest control. Please be aware that the use of an air rifle for pest control purposes in the Netherlands is legally regulated and in virtually all cases requires an exemption or hunting licence — this is only permitted for certified pest controllers or authorised users.
