AEA Megalodon 22" - Extremely powerful PCP air rifle for specialists

If you're looking for one of the most powerful air rifles available, then the AEA Megalodon 22" is definitely something to consider seriously. This PCP air rifle combines a unique pump-action system with two compressed air cylinders for extreme performance. With energy values up to 813 joules, this air rifle ranks amongst the absolute world elite in terms of power. Perfect for serious long-range shooting where maximum precision and power are required.

Our experience with the AEA Megalodon 22"

Immediately upon picking it up, it's noticeable: at 4037 grams, this air rifle is heavy and feels incredibly solid. The robust aluminium frame radiates quality. What particularly appeals to us is the clever pump-action system around the front cylinder. The diagonal grooves provide perfect grip during reloading, and the brilliant thing is that you don't need to reposition your hands whilst shooting. That works surprisingly smoothly and quickly, even with this weight.

Technology and performance

The Megalodon operates with two PCP cylinders that together have a 600 cc capacity. With a maximum fill pressure of 310 bar, you achieve extreme performance from this powerful air rifle. The 560 mm long barrel ensures excellent precision at long distances. Do note: this is an unregulated system, so keep a close eye on the pressure gauge on the left side for consistent shots. The magazine capacity varies from 6 to 11 shots depending on the chosen caliber. Curious about all the technical details? You'll find them under the heading 'More information' on this page.

Use and operation

Despite its substantial weight, this air rifle sits comfortably in the hand thanks to the ergonomic pistol grip with pre-formed finger grooves. You can hold it firmly with one hand whilst operating the pump-action with the other. The single action trigger provides a predictable release. On top sits an interrupted Weaver/Picatinny rail for your rifle scope - and you really do need one as there are no iron sights. At the bottom you'll find another short accessory rail for, for example, a bipod. The universal stock suits both left- and right-handed shooters perfectly.

Who is this air rifle intended for?

The AEA Megalodon is absolutely not an entry-level model. This is a PCP air rifle for the highly experienced shooter who wants to get the maximum from their equipment. If you already have years of experience with powerful PCP systems and are looking for ultimate performance for precision shooting at long distances, then this is your air rifle. For beginners or recreational shooters, this rifle is too heavy, too powerful and too specialised.
