H&N Slug HP Heavy .25 6.35mm 38gr – heavy hollow point slug for PCP air rifle

The H&N Heavy Slug is a cylindrical hollow point in caliber 6.35 mm / .25 with a weight of 38 grain. This projectile is designed for shooters who want to get the most out of their PCP system at longer distances. With a recommended minimum energy of 40 joules and an optimal shooting distance of around 50 metres, this slug for PCP air rifle performs at its best with more powerful setups. The combination of mass, length, and hollow point design ensures a stable flight and effective energy transfer on impact.

Our experience from the Shogun team

During our test sessions, we noticed that this slug truly comes into its own once you put sufficient energy behind the projectile. From approximately 40 joules, you get a clean flight with minimal drift, and at distances around 50 metres the grouping remains tight — provided your air rifle has the correct twist rate to stabilise a slug of this weight. With higher-powered PCP systems, the effective range extends further, where the ballistic coefficient of 0.114 helps to better maintain speed and direction in windy conditions.

Technical characteristics in practice

The projectile is made from lead, has a length of 8.6 mm, and a head diameter of 6.35 mm. With 38 grain of mass and a hollow point head, this slug combines stability with effective energy delivery on target. The packaging contains 120 pieces, providing ample opportunity to properly sight in your air rifle. Since every PCP system responds slightly differently to weight and shape, it is worth testing different grain weights to achieve the best grouping; a chronograph is a valuable tool for gaining insight into the actual energy output and consistency of your setup.

Who is this air rifle ammunition suitable for?

This slug is intended for experienced shooters with a PCP air rifle that delivers sufficient energy (from 40 joules) and is suitable for heavier projectiles. Precision enthusiasts targeting distances around 50 metres will appreciate the stable flight behaviour. As this is a hollow point projectile, it can also be used in the context of pest or rodent control. Please be aware that the use of an air rifle for pest control is legally regulated: in many cases, an exemption or hunting licence is required and this is exclusively permitted for registered pest controllers or certified users.
