H&N Slug HP Heavy .25 – heavy hollow point slug for PCP air rifles

The H&N Heavy Slug is a cylindrical hollow point in 6.35 mm / .25 caliber with a weight of 42 grain. This projectile is designed for PCP air rifles that deliver sufficient energy to bring the slug up to a stable velocity. With a recommended minimum energy of 40 joules and an optimal shooting distance of around 50 metres, this slug for PCP air rifles performs best in powerful systems where precision and energy transfer go hand in hand.

Our experience from the Shogun team

During our test sessions, the stable flight behaviour stood out in particular. The cylindrical shape combined with the higher weight produces a consistent trajectory, even in moderate crosswinds. At distances of up to approximately 50 metres, groupings remain tight, provided the air rifle delivers sufficient energy. We found that a chronograph is extremely valuable for gaining insight into the actual energy output of your setup, as the performance of a heavy slug depends entirely on the velocity your rifle achieves.

Technical characteristics in practice

The projectile has a length of 9.4 mm, is made from lead, and has a ballistic coefficient of 0.124. The hollow point design ensures excellent energy transfer on impact, whilst the weight of 42 grain contributes to a stable flight at longer distances. The packaging contains 100 pieces, providing ample opportunity to test different grain weights and types — something that generally pays off when finding the most accurate combination for your specific barrel.

Who is this air rifle ammunition suitable for?

This air rifle ammunition is intended for shooters with a PCP air rifle delivering a minimum of 40 joules, who wish to shoot at distances of around 50 metres using a heavy, stable slug. As this is a hollow point projectile, its strong energy transfer also makes it suitable for pest or rodent control. Please note that the use of an air rifle for pest control in the Netherlands is legally regulated: in most cases, an exemption or hunting licence is required, and it is reserved for certified pest controllers or licensed users.
