History of the MK48

The MK48 is an improved version of the MK46, scaled up to fire 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition. Developed for USSOCOM, it offers the firepower of the M240 or M60 in a lighter package. Since 2003, the MK48 has been used by Navy SEALs and other special units such as the 75th Rangers. In Afghanistan, the MK48 even replaced the M249 SAW in the infantry because of its portability and power.
