H&N Heavy Slug HP 5.5mm 34gr – Heavy Hollow Point Slug for PCP Air Rifles

The H&N Heavy Slug is a true powerhouse among slugs for PCP air rifles. With a caliber of 5.5 mm / .22 and a weight of 34 grain, this projectile is designed for shooters who want to get the most out of their PCP system at longer distances. The advanced hollow point design ensures excellent energy transfer on impact, while the solid lead projectile maintains a stable flight path thanks to its weight. Each pack contains 150 rounds, more than enough to properly sight in and get to know how this slug performs at various distances.

Our Experience from the Shogun Team

In our tests, what stands out most is how smoothly this slug behaves in the barrel of a more powerful PCP air rifle. Due to its higher weight, the projectile has a slow but very stable flight, which translates into tight groupings at distances between 75 and 100 metres, provided there is sufficient energy behind it (from approximately 40 joules). The hollow point nose remains well balanced in flight and delivers considerable expansion on impact. For shooters who have their setup properly tuned, this is a slug that truly rewards consistency.

Technical Characteristics in Practice

With a caliber of 5.5 mm, a weight of 34 grain, and a hollow point projectile shape made from solid lead, this projectile has a clear focus on energy transfer and long-range performance. The higher grain weight means you need a PCP system with sufficient output to keep the slug up to speed and on course. It is absolutely worthwhile to test different grain weights within your own air rifle, as every barrel responds slightly differently to weight and length. A chronograph is a valuable addition in this regard: it gives you direct insight into the actual energy output and allows you to fine-tune your setup for the best accuracy. The pack of 150 rounds provides ample opportunity to carry out that tuning process at your own pace.

Who Is This Air Rifle Ammunition Suitable For?

This slug is made for experienced shooters with a powerful PCP air rifle who want to get the most out of their setup at longer distances. Precision enthusiasts who enjoy shooting at 75 to 100 metres and are focused on optimising their groupings will greatly benefit from the stable flight characteristics. As this is a hollow point projectile with strong expansion properties, it can also be used for pest or rodent control. The use of an air rifle for this purpose is legally regulated in the Netherlands; in many cases, an exemption or hunting licence is required and it is only permitted for certified pest controllers or licensed users.
